We meet for worship on Sunday 11 February 2024 at 9.30am in Bowden Kirk and 11.00am in Melrose Church. The theme of our service is Mountaintop Moments. Melrose services are livestreamed, and you can watch on our Facebook page or church website. Edict

Susie Hazeldine, a member of this congregation (formerly an elder in Edinburgh: Murrayfield) has been asked to become an elder here. If anyone has any objections why she may not be admitted to that office, they must state their objection at the meeting of the Kirk Session in Melrose Church on Sunday 28 February at 10.45am; if no relevant objection regarding life or doctrine is made and substantiated, the Kirk Session will proceed with her admission. Messy Church

Messy Church meets on Sunday afternoon at 3.00pm in Melrose Church and Hall. We use story, song, craft, games and fun to explore Bible stories. This month our story is ‘Through the Roof’ – the 4 friends who brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus. Messy Church is for families however members of the congregation are most welcome to come along and watch or join in. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Our next Messy Church is on Sunday 11 February 2024.


Church Choir

Melrose Church Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 9.45am. It would be good to have a few additional singers join the choir – you will be made very welcome!


Coffee After Church

Teas and coffees are available after the Melrose service in the Church Hall. All are welcome and if you would like to join the rota of helpers, please send a message to the office.


Worship and Fellowship at St John’s

We meet in St John’s Care Home on Tuesday 13 February 2024 for a short service of worship followed by afternoon tea on the second Tuesday of the month at 2.00pm. You are warmly invited to come along and share this time with the residents.


Melrose Historical and Archaeological Association

‘The Battle of Ancrum Moor 1545: A New Appraisal’, an illustrated lecture by Geoff Parkhouse in Marmion’s @ The Wynd on Tuesday 13 February 2024 at 7.30pm. All welcome. Members Free, Visitors £4.00


World Day of Prayer

Melrose Church is hosting the annual World Day of Prayer Service for our area on Friday 1 March at 2.30pm. We’ve had our first planning meeting. The others are being held on Wednesdays 14 and 28 February at 2.30pm in the Church Hall. If you would like to be involved please come along.


Open Door

Come along to our weekly Open Door every Thursday, 10.00am-12noon, when the hall will be open for tea, coffee, company and chat. If you would like to join the rota of helpers there’s a sign-up sheet in the church kitchen. Thank you!


Borders Chamber Orchestra

‘Winter Concert’ on Saturday 17th February at 7pm in Melrose Church. Conductor – Alison Rushworth, Soloist – Claire Taylor (Soprano). Tickets £10, under 18s free. Light refreshments provided. www.borderschamberorchestra.org.uk


Bowden Community Cafe

The Bowden Community Cafe meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 11am in Bowden Village Hall. The next Cafe is on 21 February 2024. All very welcome.


Church Coffee Morning

The annual Church Coffee Morning in aid of our Special Projects will be held in Bowden Village Hall from 10-12noon on Saturday 2nd March. Help and donations gratefully received on the day or to Irene Armstrong (01835 823591).


Galashiels Foodbank

With the cost-of-living crisis many are seeking help from the local Foodbank. Donations of food can be left at the pickup points in Galashiels at ASDA, M&S, Poundland, and Iceland, as well as Co-op stores in Melrose and Earlston. Money to buy perishable items can be donated at https://www.justgiving.com/galashielsfoodbank Thank you!


Eco Congregation

We collect and recycle stamps (World Mission project to help establish tree nurseries in Central Africa), small egg boxes (for the Galashiels Food Bank), specs (for re-use in the Philippines), plastic milk bottle tops (supporting cancer and palliative care charities). We also have collection boxes for batteries and printer cartridges…. PLEASE NOTE We are no longer collecting blister packs as there is no-one prepared to recycle them.
