A BIG THANK YOU!!
December has been a very busy month in the church, a lot going on, not least the Memorial Service last Monday with all that entailed. Alan and Yvonne Young have just about been living in the church…. We extend our grateful thanks to them for their commitment and willingness to go the extra mile! It is much appreciated. Thanks also to John Wilson and Jim Letham, our organists, for their wonderful music each week and to the choir for their commitment and much enjoyed contributions to worship. Tracey became our Church Secretary earlier in the year. It has been a steep learning curve but she has settled in well and is coping with the Christmas printing marathon! Again, a big thank you to her, and to Karen who keeps Bowden Kirk clean and tidy.
Open Door
Come along to our weekly Open Door every Thursday, 10.00am-12noon, when the hall will be open for tea, coffee, company and chat. If you would like to join the rota of helpers there’s a sign-up sheet in the church kitchen. Thank you!
Galashiels Foodbank
With the cost of living crisis it is anticipated that many will be seeking help from the local Foodbank. Donations of food can be left at the pickup points in Galashiels at ASDA, M&S, Poundland, and Iceland, as well as Coop stores in Melrose and Earlston. Money to but perishable items can be donated at https://www.justgiving.com/galashielsfoodbankThank you!
Eco congregation Christmas Reminder!
In these days wasting food is both a budget issue and environmental. Try the website https://lovefoodhatewaste.com for ideas about how to reduce waste and use up leftover food.
Many people want to understand why black plastic can’t go in the recycling bin. This is because of the dye that is used to make it. ‘Carbon Black’ can’t be read by the technology used to sort the mixed recycling. There is research going on to change this we just have to be patient.
Church Choir
The choir will be taking a break over Christmas.
Coffee After Church
Teas and coffees are available after the Melrose service in the Church Hall. All are welcome and if you would like to join the rota of helpers, please send a message to the office.
